About

Cloth and Clay Dolls started out as a small workshop held on a blog in the Fall of 2008. It was originally set up as a 30 day class, but after a few of those, I found that members wanted to continue sharing their doll-making with one another so, we moved to ning.

When we moved here, we stayed fairly private in that the only way to venture past the front page was to pay the registration fee and join the group.

Now that there has been so much interest (and confusion about just how to sign up and get in) I have opened the group up to all and have made the Tutorials available to purchase after you join the group.

I have other neat ideas for future tutorials and think this new format is the best way to organize it all.

There are over 600 awesome doll-makers here, all with a style of their own! The Original Cloth and Clay Doll Workshop is a perfect beginners class to get you started on this fun journey. Feel free to join us!

Thank you for stopping by.

dirty sculpts

At a class with Jack Johnston this winter found out that the no-seeums (lilt that you can't see) coming off your clothing can be picked up on your working clay. Stewing about this for awhile I realized it was the wrist guard the doctor gave to me wear after my arm came out of the cast. I've been waiting almost 2 months to work in clay again.....yikes! I took off the thing, o… Continue

Following my sister, member Susan Woodworth

It's usually the older sister who leads the way, however three years ago I quit smoking and couldn't paint anymore. (Apparently smoking and painting were attached to each other.) Then younger sister suggested I try making dolls like she was doing. So I went to a ceramic studio and immediately knew it would stifle my creative juices. So I bought a cloth doll pattern and dived in. The faces and hands bothered me....just not real enough but I kept trying. Then Sue and I took a class from Adele Scio… Continue

Notes:

A LITTLE TRICK FOR ARRANGING YOUR MY PAGE**If you put your cursor it the top left corner of any content box on your page, a little cross with arrows appears...you can use that to drag and drop the content boxes into the order you want them...Give it a try! ______________________________________________________________

PHOTO ANNOUNCEMENT: I am loving all the wonderful doll pics being posted...such talent! But...I have a request: Please keep the doll pictures you upload limited to Cloth and Clay dolls. This will keep our group focus and help newcomers. If you have a photostream of dolls hosted outside of this group (like flikr or photobucket) you can share that on your My Page. Thanks for your understanding~ Jane
